Fuerza Juanita is a quilted tribute to my great-grandmother, a woman who lived through the Mexican Revolution and the quiet violence of patriarchy. Small in stature but mighty in spirit, she survived domestic violence while remaining devoted to her faith and her community—crafting wooden altars for the town's saint day parades with her own hands. Her creativity was an act of resistance, her resilience a form of power rarely recognized or named. This piece honors her strength, her survival, and the legacy she carried forward through generations of women who came after her.
